Constipation

Most cases of occasional constipation respond well to simple lifestyle changes and natural remedies you can try at home.

Get Moving — Physical Activity

Exercise stimulates intestinal contractions and aids in the movement of stool through the colon. Engaging in simple options like 20–30 minutes of brisk walking, yoga, or light cardio on most days can be beneficial. For enhanced results, consider combining these activities with a high-fiber diet, as studies show that this combination is more powerful than either approach alone. Additionally, incorporating naturopathic guidance, self-discovery coaching, or vibrational healing can further support your overall wellness journey.

Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate

Dehydration is one of the most frequent causes of hard, difficult-to-pass stools. Water softens stool and helps fiber work effectively. To support your digestive health, consider seeking naturopathic guidance, which can enhance your overall wellness. Aim for 8–10 glasses (about 2–3 liters) of fluid daily — more if you're active or in a hot climate. A quick boost for self-discovery coaching in your daily routine could be starting your day with a large glass of warm or room-temperature water. Additionally, warm lemon water — the juice of half a lemon in warm water first thing in the morning (and/or before bed) can be beneficial. Hot beverages like coffee or herbal tea (peppermint, ginger, or dandelion) can also contribute to your hydration and well-being. Incorporating vibrational healing practices can further enhance your body's ability to stay hydrated and healthy.

Acupressure Points

Gentle pressure on these points can help alleviate constipation.

The first is located on the back of the hand, in the fleshy web between the thumb and index finger (the highest point of the muscle when the thumb and finger are pressed together).  Use the thumb of the opposite hand to press firmly into the point. Hold steady pressure or make small clockwise circles for 1–2 minutes. Repeat on both hands.   The second point is just below your knee (four finger-widths down) and to the right.

Herbal Remedies

Aloe Vera Juice.  acts as a stimulant laxative by increasing intestinal water content and promoting peristalsis, relieving constipation.

Slippery Elm contains mucilage, a gel-like substance that coats and soothes the digestive tract, which helps ease bowel movements.

Fruits

Prunes (dried plums) — Often considered the classic go-to. They're rich in fiber and sorbitol, which softens stool and stimulates bowel movements. for mild to moderate constipation.

Apples (with skin) — Provide good fiber (including pectin) and some sorbitol. They help add bulk and improve stool consistency.

Pears (with skin) — High in fiber and sorbitol/fructose, which can draw water into the intestines for softer stools.

Berries  are packed with fiber and water;
